Wednesday 27th September

Good morning year 5!

Please have a look at the activities below. Please try and complete some of this home-learning which will help you be ready for our learning in school. Don’t worry if you can’t get it all done-speak to mums and dads about what you should try to do.

Handwriting

Look at the handwriting document. Practise the words (linked to out RWI spelling rule – silent b) in your neatest handwriting - joining all letters. This can be done on paper you have at home. You do not need to print out the sheet - just use it as a guide.

Guided Reading

We are currently reading Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver. Please use the link to listen to chapter 6.

Wolf Brother Chapter 6

Once you have listened to the chapter, answer the questions below, considering the words the cub uses and what they might mean.

English

Yesterday, you should have taken home a copy of a newspaper report to explore the features - structural and grammatical.

Hopefully, you came up with some of the following:

- Headline

-Subheading

- Introduction

- Paragraphs presenting in the main information in chronological order

- 3rd person

- Past tense

- formal language/tone

- Direct (quotes) and reported speech

- Concluding paragraph that explains what might happen next

Today, we would like you to think back to the events of the day Harris Burdick arrived at the office of Mr Wenders. We would like you to plan what information you would include in the different sections of a newspaper report if you were writing a report about these events. Use the planning document below to put your ideas in.

Maths

We have been focusing on place value, including: reading and writing numbers to 1,000,000; understanding the value of digits in these numbers; comparing and ordering numbers to 1,000,000.

The next step in our place value learning is rounding numbers to 10, 100 and 1000. Please watch and work through the video to learn about this topic, then complete the worksheet below.

Art

Using the techniques we practised last week, we are going to be making our own sculptures based on some of the Ancient Greek sculptures we have looked at. You will be basing your own sculpture on yourself. Watch the video linked below to see how the sculptures will be made.

Then, using a mirror to help, draw a sketch of your own face using the sketching techniques we have been learning in previous lessons.

A reminder of the sketching techniques can be found in this video:
