Science in the EYFS

Science within the EYFS is explored through ‘Understanding the World’ and can also be linked to other areas (see EYFS Science overview above for more details). We work with volunteers, parents and members of the local community who are invited to share knowledge and first hand experiences of professions such as vets, nurses, army, firefighters and police. The school environment provides children with the opportunity to make observations, generate discussions and use scientific vocabulary to support questioning and prediction skills. Additionally, the BOLE (Binfield Outdoor Learning Environment) is an outdoor classroom that the children access daily. This provides the children to observe and the natural world as well as learning to show care and respect for living things.
