Do something active
Repeat these activities and see if you've improved your score from last week. Put your results on the Onenote document. Each week we are submitting your scores for the competition.
Fine Motor Control
Take a plain piece of paper or a colouring sheet. Stick the sheet on the bottom of a chair or table. Lay on your back and colour in the picture. This will help develop your finger muscles as it takes more strength to colour upside down.
RWI
Go through all your speed sounds using your booklet, flash cards or maybe look at the Ruth Miskin website for a guided session. There are lots of videos to choose from. Choose a set 2 or 3 sound that you think your child needs to work on, or just work though a different one each day.
Read:
- Green storybook words using Fred talk if necessary
- Red words
- Speedy green words using Fred in the head
Jump in
Now read the story to your child with them following along. Every now and then, pause and get them to read the next word.
E.g. You: Mama hen had a ...
Child: Problem
To make it more fun, sometimes read the wrong word and get them to correct you.
E.g. You: Things began to go wrong in the Winter.
Child: Spring!
Now ask your child to read the whole story again out loud. Encourage Fred in the head.
Hold a sentence
Say the following sentence and ask your child to repeat. Keep doing this until they are confident that they know the sentence. Then write it down asking them to help you with spelling, capital letters etc. Now hide this and ask them to write the sentence independently. If they have made mistakes, encourage them to correct them.
Tab the Cat - You must get a big tank for a fish.
Off Sick - Mum said I cannot go swimming with Dad and Sam today.
Challenge - Tomorrow you can have sweets and pick a film from a shop.
