Y5 children enjoyed a science demonstration recently conducted by Mrs Sandilands and Mrs Ahmed. The demonstration was about reversible and irreversible changes, using six different materials to explore what would happen to them as they were burned. The materials used were chocolate, paper, paper towels, plastic, a block of butter and a paper plate. Y5 discovered that, once the material is burned it forms a new material, such as ash or gas, which is produced through smoke (CO2 or carbon dioxide). Mr G was on hand with the fire extinguisher! However, not all the materials burned – some simply melted, such as the chocolate!
