Play is a central tool for learning; it is a key way in which young children learn with enjoyment and challenge. Structured play where the learning outcome has been clearly identified through careful planning and support is very important in the Reception classroom.
At Binfield CE Primary School (VA), we believe it is important to provide an Early Years education that aims to meet the individual needs of every child in our care. Children are made to feel safe and secure and are valued as individuals. Independence is fostered, as are positive attitudes to learning and each child is encouraged to reach their full potential.
The foundation stage curriculum is organised into the following areas:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
All these areas of learning are of equal importance.
There are three Learning Characteristics: Playing and Exploring; Active Learning; Creating and Thinking Critically; which run through all our practice.
At the end of the year, the children are assessed against 17 Early Learning Goals (which are based around the Areas for Learning) and the Learning Characteristics.
